In 2006 Felipe Massa fulfilled his and a nations dream when he won his home Grand Prix in Interlagos. He was the first Brazilian since Ayrton Senna to do so and he described it as the happiest moment of his life.
The story of Massa began on the 25th of April in 1981 when he was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. From 1990 to 1998 he competed in the Sao Paulo Micro-Kart cat before he made his debut in Formula Chevrolet where he took fifth place in the Brazilian Championship in his first year and won the title in the second.
In 2000 Massa came to Europe and drove in the Formula Renault Italien Series where he took the title just as he did in the Formula Renault European Series in the same year. In 2001 he won in the European F3000 championship and got his first test in a formula one car, when Peter Sauber invited him to test the Sauber-Petronas.
After convincing the team of his driving abilities he got a full time drive in 2002 and earned four points in the drivers championship. Instead of racing another season the following year, Massa moved to Ferrari as a test driver. With a lot more experience from working for the championship team under his belt, the Brazilian returned to Sauber as a race driver in the years 2004 and 2005, where he earned the last championship points for Peter Sauber before he handed the team over to BMW.
In 2006 came the call from Ferrari where Massa was to fill the cockpit of Rubens Barrichello who had left the team for Honda. As team mate of seven time World Champion Michael Schumacher Massa earned his first Formula One victory in Turkey before he took the much wanted win in Brazil. For the next three years Massa teamed up with Kimi Räikkönen at Ferrari and was a serious contender for the title. In 2008 he was Formula One world champion for some twenty seconds - then Lewis Hamilton overtook Timo Glock and won the title. In Hungary 2009 Massa had his worst racing accident as he collided with a part from Rubens Barrichellos' Brawn GP car. Luckily he will be back racing for Ferrari in 2010.
